One of Atlanta’s top tourist attractions has added some new guidelines as part of a planned reopening, which is to come nearly four months after the Covid-19 pandemic caused it to close.
The World of Coca-Cola, which closed to the public on March 16, is set to reopen July 15 with a reduced/controlled capacity. The Atlanta-based beverage giant said all tickets will need to be purchased in advance online and that face coverings will be mandatory for all visitors over the age of 2.
The downtown attraction will also have alterations to a few of its most popular features, such as the “Taste It” sampling area that includes flavors of Coca-Cola beverages from around the globe. In order to comply with FDA guidelines around self-service beverages, visitors will be given a “Taste It Entry Time” that will include a “new, curated tasting experience for their small group,” according to a Coca-Cola spokesperson. With capacity “greatly reduced” to ensure social distancing, World of Coca-Cola employees will leads five groups of no more than six people each into the exhibit at any given time, the spokesperson said. The groups will be allowed to sample 10 different beverages at five stations. The Freestyle fountains will be unavailable.
Additionally, the Coca-Cola Polar Bear will be available for photos on a limited basis, with photos taking place a “few feet away” from the company’s long-time mascot, rather than the typical embrace.
Coca-Cola said the downtown attraction had 1.25 million visitors in 2019.
The venue would be the latest to tourist spot to open with limited attendance. The Georgia Aquarium reopened on June 15, but without the dolphin, sea lion and 4D theater presentations. Six Flags Over Georgia also opened its doors to members and season pass holders on June 15, with Six Flags White Water set to follow suit on June 29.
