Shoneys is now open on the old Bugaboo site in Newnan, next to Panera .

We held our staff meeting here and were happily impressed by the service and the value of the food served.

We always loved breakfast here available daily starting at 6 AM with a brunch buffet on week-ends at $7.99.

The NewnanJunior Service League (NJSL) will host its seventh annual Bargain Bash on Saturday, Sept. 3, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Welcome Center located at 1792 Welcome Road.  This event will feature new and gently used
home goods, toys, children’s and adult apparel, holiday décor and more for sale
at bargain prices.  The NJSL will also
have its three award-winning cookbooks and food items from the cookbooks for
sale at this event.  All proceeds from
this year’s event will support the NJSL, whose mission is to serve the Newnan
and Coweta County community through service, annual
scholarships and financial contributions.

Junior Service League, including how to support its fundraising efforts for the

PINE MOUNTAIN, GA (8/19/11) –
Become a part of Callaway Gardens’ 13th annual Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival, September 2-4, 2011, by joining a chase crew.  Chase crews follow balloons in flight and recover them once they’ve landed.  It’s a terrific
way to get involved with your community and experience ballooning first hand. Crews assist pilots with inflating, launching, “chasing” and packing the balloons.

A good pair of gloves and a little time are all that are needed.  In return, crew members learn about
ballooning and have access to the balloon festival and all the great activities and attractions at Callaway Gardens.

There is a Balloon Glow on Friday, September 2, with setup beginning around 7 p.m. The launches are
Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4, between 6:30 a.m. EDT and 7:30
a.m. and again between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.  Crew volunteers should be available at these times.

Balloons fly wherever the wind blows and usually travel five to seven miles before landing.  Chase crews
maintain radio contact with a balloon pilot. Once the balloon has landed, the crew assists with retrieving a balloon and its passengers and escorting them back to Callaway Gardens.

Approximately 150 volunteer chase crew members are needed.  Crew members must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license and be able to volunteer at the Balloon Glow on Friday night and both
flights on Saturday and Sunday.  Each balloon needs a four or five-member crew.

If you are interested in becoming a chase crew member or if you have questions about the event, please contact
Greg Brannen, Callaway Gardens’ recreation director, at 706-663-5043 or at gbrannen@callawaygardens.com.

We loved our lunch at Mama Lucia’s in Newnan. Chef /Owner Leonard puts out a very good lunch for the value . His fried string beans over a brocoli and chicken crepes was finger licking good . For something lighter try the chicken salad.

85 South is holding a contest for our school-aged readers. We are asking school-aged children of all grade levels (K-12) to write a paper on “What I Did This Summer” and submit it to 85 South for a random drawing to win a $50 gift card to Barnes and Noble. Please submit your papers by mail, post marked by August 18, to Writing Contest, c/o Publishing South, PO Box 207, Hogansville, GA 30230. Letters can be typed or hand-written. There is no length requirement. We will print a few papers in the September issue and randomly draw the winner from all papers. Please include the student’s and parent’s names and the best way to be contacted if your paper is drawn.

The LaGrange Symphony
Youth Orchestra String Ensemble and Piccolo String Ensemble will hold auditions
for interested young musicians on Monday, August 15 at 5:00pm at the LSPA
facility on Bull Street in downtown LaGrange.

Callie Hammond, conductor of both the String Ensemble and Piccolo String Ensemble, encourages
young players to attend the auditions saying, “These ensembles are an excellent
way to improve your skills while learning to play with other
musicians.”

 Members of the LSYO
String Ensemble are typically between 7 and 15 years of age with at least two
years experience with their instrument. The Piccolo String Ensemble is for
beginning musicians between 5 and 10 years of age who are studying with a
private teacher and are ready to begin playing with a group.

Those auditioning should prepare 2 scales and one musical selection that best represents their
playing ability. For more details on the auditions or either ensemble, contact
Ms. Hammond at hamm0806@bellsouth.net.

LaGrange Symphony Youth Orchestra, LSYO String Ensemble and the Piccolo String Ensemble are
educational initiatives of the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra.  The LSO achieves
its mission of enriching our community through music by providing performance
opportunities for young musicians. For more information visit us online at www.lagrangesymphony.org.

In our constant search for great Sushi we always seek to find one that we like. Yama in LaGrange may be one of the best seafood houses in Troup County. We have never had a bad dish in this rather low-key restaurant. Every dish looks like a piece of art. We recommend that you try it. 111 Main Street, LaGrange, 706-407-6365.

Yes, if you love Sushi you may want to try Sushi Pronto, they make nothing else focusing all their energy on the art of Sushi. Every dish is perfect and made with love and passion. They also have great Sake. Located next to the car wash and Swings, Etc.
