The Newnan-Coweta Chamber and the Coweta GOP will co-sponsor a candidate forum on Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Wadsworth Auditorium in Newnan. Candidates seeking the Georgia House District 71 seat and candidates for the 3rd District, Georgia, U.S. House of Representatives will be presenting their platforms. The State House District 71 will be from 6 – 7pm followed by the U.S. Congressional 3rdDistrict forum from 7 – 9pm. The public is invited.
The Candidates Forum is not a debate and will follow a modified version of the League of Women Voters. Each candidate will have two minutes for their opening statement followed by a series of questions vetted from the Chamber’s membership. Each will be allowed a closing statement as well. The House District 71 seat became open after Rep. Billy Horne announced his retirement at the end of his current term.
Two candidates have qualified and will run in the Republican primary. They are Darryl Marmon (R, Sharpsburg) and Robert Stokely (R, Sharpsburg). Two candidates have qualified to challenge incumbent Congressman Lynn Westmoreland (R, Grantville) in the July 31 primary election. They are Chip Flanagan (R, Jonesboro) and Kent Kingsley (R, Milner).
There is no charge to attend and seating will be on a first come, first seated basis. Sponsors will not endorse any candidate and the Chamber will continue its policy of remaining neutral toward all candidates and to not endorse any candidate for office.
