Events for a Good Cause

United Way Allocation Process Volunteers Needed. As a volunteer, you would become a member of a panel to review the programs, services, and budgets of the agencies that are requesting funds from United Way of West Georgia, Inc.  Each panel will review four or five agencies. Behind the Mask (Del’avant, 141 Main Street, LaGrange; February 1, 7 to 11 pm). As the New Year begins so does the countdown to the annual Twin Cedar’s “Behind the Mask” Mardi Gras event. This year’s event includes the addition of the Royal Court, a special rooftop Investiture party, and music by Mudcat. Reserved tables (includes 8 tickets) are available for $500 and single tickets are available for $50. Contact Samantha Link at slink@twincedars.org for more information.

Super Bowl Sunday Soup Fundraiser (First United Methodist Church, 401 Broad Street, LaGrange; February 2, 10 am). To help raise money for local missions and activities, First United Methodist Church is having a Super Bowl Sunday Soup Fundraiser! Mexican chicken corn chowder, vegetable beef, creamy potato, and white chicken chili will be available.  $5.00 per quart. Yum! Soup is good food!

Oscar Night 2014 (Lafayette Garden Inn, LaGrange; March 2, 6:30 pm). Boys & Girls Clubs of West Georgia will host Oscar Night 2014, presented by the Mike Patton Auto Family. The event will feature a red carpet arrival, reception, and silent auction. Dinner will be served with live entertainment provided. The event will also include a live auction and the Oscars Viewing Party.

Chamber Posts Record Year
 I am proud to report that 2013 was a banner year for your Chamber.  Your Chamber’s mission is to champion economic prosperity for its members, and that’s just what we did this past year.  It was my privilege and honor to lead this organization during such a productive year. 


From earning our 5-star accreditation, which puts us in the top one percent of chambers nationally, to our focus on Coweta as a healthcare destination, to the creation of an industry safety council, to the numerous new growth tools we added to our member toolkit, your Chamber delivered great value.  I hope you’ll take a moment  to read just a few of the many highlights from 2013 listed below. 


2013 Highlights 

  1. Earned national, 5-star accreditation
  2. Received national communications Award of Excellence
  3. Developed a healthcare marketing plan to help drive Coweta’s growing role as a healthcare destination
  4. Launched industry benchmarking engagement series, which established a Coweta Industry Safety Council
  5. Provided more than 156 strategic opportunities for networking and leads generation through signature events and committee involvement
  6. Launched “Coweta Tools for Business Success,” a premier online resource that gives members an amazing ROI without ever having to attend a single event
  7. Funded 43 dual-enrolled candidates for Nurses Aide certification testing
  8. Increased value for small business owners through expanded programming with our Small Business Matters program to include Leads to Business, Power Networking Lunches, Small Business Awards
  9. Provided needs-based, high quality training as part of Chamber University to include sales, social media, iPad, and media training
  10. Invested in extensive technology upgrades to better serve and meet member needs 
  11. Informed members through issues workshops, candidate forums, Advocate emails, legislative roundtables, Eggs & Issues Forum and annual public policy agenda
  12. Exceeded sales goals for new member recruitment welcoming 233 new members to the Chamber Family
  13. Recruited 12 new Enhanced Investors, bringing the total to 41 team members
  14. Closed the year with a positive budget gap and grew long-term reserves
  15. Completed phase two of much-needed facility upgrade plan
  16. Demonstrated staff effectiveness and credibility by staff earning professional designations and receiving state and national professional development scholarships

Academy Theatre and the Capitol City Opera are thrilled to present ‘Hansel & Gretel’, the family opera presented in English by Englebert Humperdinck!  The show will be February 8th at 3 PM at the Hapeville Performing Arts Center, the home of the Academy Theatre.
The show will feature an hour performance of the classic children’s tale and after the show, the performers will come out in costume to mingle with the guests!
“We are thrilled to be working again with Academy Theater and look forward to a great event!”, says Tafee Patterson, director of Education for Capitol City Opera!
“People on the Southside have not had a lot of opportunities to enjoy Opera!  We’re glad we can bring young people a new experience!”, says Robert Drake, Academy Artistic Director
Hansel and Gretel tells the story of a brother and sister who escape the evil clutches of a witch that has tempted them with delicious baked treats!  The show will feature a diverse cast of singers and will be presented in English!
Only 70 Seats are available for this performance and tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children!
This show is appropriate for 4 year olds and above!
The City of Hapeville and the HAT fund are partners with the Academy Theatre for all Hapeville productions.

Piedmont Newnan Hospital, along with Piedmont Fayette Hospital, Piedmont Physicians and Piedmont Heart, is preparing for its annual “Healthy Heart Fair” on Saturday, February 15th, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Piedmont Francis Way location in Sharpsburg.  Participants will be able to take advantage of free health screenings, including blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), cholesterol and glucose screenings, and they will also have the opportunity to consult with clinicians and hospital staff about disease prevention, fitness maintenance and tips to improve health and well-being.  In addition, free healthy heart educational materials, fitness and cooking demonstrations will be provided by Live Better Coweta and Fayette.  Registration is required for the free health screenings.  To register, please call 877-527-3712.
