4th OF JULY CELEBRATION IN NEWNAN

Main Street Newnan kicks off Newnan’s Fourth of July activities with the 4th of July Parade at 9am on Friday, July 4th.

The Newnan Rotary club kicks off the fireworks festivities at 5:30pm where the gates at Drake Stadium will be open with family fun and fireworks until dark.  Concessions will be available at 6pm.  Traditional holiday fare will be on hand with hot dogs, popcorn and soft drinks.

 

 

There will be musical entertainment by Musicology’s Doug Kees from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.  The event is sure to please the whole family with bounces houses provided for children along with free souvenirs for the kids.Honor Guard duty for the July 4th fireworks event will be performed by John Caldwell, Thomas Coursey, and Ernie Menet of The Sergeant Clyde Thompson Medal of Honor Detachment # 1325 of the Marine Corps League. 

Musical Entertainment

The Men of Cornerstone Quartet is a Southern Gospel Quartet from
Newnan, GA.  They enjoy singing at churches, civic functions and special events.

The group consists of Mike Ferrante, Tenor; Robert Thompson, Tenor; Dick Shaffer,  Baritone; and Paul Griffin, Bass.

They will be performing after 9:00PM at Newnan High School’s Drake Stadium before the Rotary Fireworks begin.  They will share three selections: American Tribute, God Bless America, and the Armed Forces Medley.

Returning as emcees for the evening are Cathy Wright of the University of West Georgia’s Newnan campus and State Representative Lynn Smith.  The night’s program will be Patriotic celebrating Independence Day.  Independence Day has become a day for remembering our military, celebrating our freedoms and enjoying summer.

 

Fun, festivities, food, children’s activities and entertainment will be at Newnan High School’s Drake Stadium.  Sponsored by the City of Newnan, Coweta County,  Coweta County Schools and The Rotary Club of Newnan.  This is Newnan Rotary Club’s 29th year sponsoring the fireworks.

 

Fireworks begin at dusk.  Admission is free.

Art is a free expression of who you are both during and after your journey with cancer. It helps patients and their caregivers cope with the treatment and recovery process. West Georgia Health Oncology Services offers this class freely to cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. Local artist volunteer their time to teach and demonstrate different medians of art. 30th Annual Sweet Land of Liberty Parade – A Star Spangled Spectacular (10 am, downtown LaGrange)

The parade will line up beginning at 9am at the Carmike Cinemas parking lot on Main Street. Participants will march down Main Street, around the square, up Bull Street and back to the movie theater parking lot. The parade is open to all young people ages 0-19. Register your child, children or youth group (girl scouts, boy scouts, camp, school or church group, neighborhood, etc) at Troup County Parks & Recreation. Girl Power & Emerging Women Summer Program (Girl Power Headquarter, 2170 West Point Rd., Hwy 29, Suite 29, LaGrange)

Girl Power & Emerging Women presents a 10-week Summer Program beginning May 27th through Aug 8th. Each week is a new adventure of technology, arts, dance, photography, television, radio, creating and recording songs, obstacle courses, leadership development, amazing races, and more! West Georgia S.T.A.R. Summer Enrichment Camp (LaGrange Housing Authority)

A Slice of Our History: Troup County Golf and Golfers  (Legacy Museum on Main, 136 Main Street, LaGrange)

Troup County has played an often unrecognized role in the history of the sport of golf. From the early 20th century until today, several people and events with Troup County connections have impacted the game and its development. The story of golf is unveiled through photographs, artifacts, news clippings and more. Among those spotlighted are Ely Callaway, Bobby Jones, Lionel and Harold Callaway, Suzanne Jackson, Allen Doyle and others. Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5 pm and Saturdays, 10 am – 4 pm. Toddler Thursday is designed just for 1-5 year olds and their favorite adult. Each class will introduce toddlers to art and the Museum through age-appropriate short stories, gallery activities, and an art activity. ‘Atlanta’s very special to me’ says Kenyatta, ‘I have so many friends here and I want them to get an up close and person view of the work I am doing’. 

The show chronicles the life of Paul Robeson as he fights bigotry, both in American and abroad while on his way to becoming a renowned singer!
