Stone Mountain Park visitors invited to take “the Jump” this spring

Three new free fall jump towers offer family-friendly thrills

Stone Mountain, Ga. – Adventure is just one step away for families at Georgia’s most visited attraction. New for 2016 at Stone Mountain Park is “the Jump,” a thrilling, family-friendly, multi-level free fall drop experience. Guests have the option of three different tower levels to jump onto free fall air bags similar to a stunt professional. This new attraction will open Spring of 2016.

“With heights from just a few feet to two stories tall, each of the three new jumping platforms offers a different challenge,” says Jeanine Jones, spokesperson for Stone Mountain Park. “Located next to Sky Hike and Geyser Towers, the Jump is a unique way for families to get out and get together in the outdoors this spring.”

The Jump is a new thrill attraction integrated into the current Sky Hike compound. Three different towers of 20, 15 and less than 10 feet, offer different levels of family thrills. Amateur stunt jumpers 44 inches (3’8”) and over, fall from their tower of choice onto a large, soft airbag below.

The Jump is included, along with over a dozen other attractions, with any Adventure Pass ticket or Mountain Membership. For more information, special promotions and giveaways, guests are invited to “like” Stone Mountain Park on Facebook at facebook.com/stonemountainpark.

Listed in Frommer’s 500 Places to Visit with Your Kids Before They Grow Up and cited by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as one of “35 Natural Wonders in Georgia You Must See,” Stone Mountain Park is located 16 miles east of downtown Atlanta.  To get to the park, take I-285 to Exit 39B, Hwy. 78 East.  Stone Mountain Park is at Exit No. 8 on Hwy. 78. More information regarding Stone Mountain Park attractions and hours of operation is available at 800-401-2407 or by visiting www.stonemountainpark.com.

Calling all birders!  Every Christmas season Callaway Gardens® participates in The National Audubon Society’s Christmas Bird Count Program.

Volunteer birders are needed to assist with the count on Saturday, January 2, 2016.  Some participants simply watch feeders from the comfort of their home, while others walk and drive through different portions of the count area to census the bird populations.

Apart from its attraction as a social, sporting, and competitive event, the Christmas Bird Count reveals key scientific information about the Winter distribution of resident and migratory birds across the Western Hemisphere.

Each count has a designated circle measuring 15 miles in diameter.  All the birds seen or heard during the 24-hour (midnight to midnight) count day are tallied by birders. The center of the count circle is near the Mountain Creek® Inn at Callaway Gardens, so the census area encompasses much of Callaway Gardens, as well as FDR State Park, and a large portion of Harris County.

Preregistration for the Christmas Bird Count is required by December 22, 2015.  Participants should have a good knowledge of birds, dress for the weather, in layers and wear hiking boots or sturdy walking shoes and bring a lunch and/or a snack.” To volunteer for this exciting event, email education@callawaygardens.com .

Callaway Gardens® is in Pine Mountain, Ga., 60 minutes southwest of Atlanta and 30 minutes north of Columbus.  For additional information, call 1.800.463.6990 or visit www.callawaygardens.com.
