The STAR (Superintendent’s Theatre Arts Resource) Program returns to the Nixon stage with the smash hit HAIRSPRAY. Performed in collaboration with East Coweta, Newnan and Northgate high school students.

The local Red Cross chapter is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year serving the Troup County/LaGrange area.  We want you to consider helping us celebrate this milestone event!

For those who have not already responded, please consider joining us September 7th at the Highland Country Club for an afternoon of fun.

I have attached information that you may find helpful.  Food, soft drinks, spirits and giveaways are provided if you take part!

For those who have already responded and signed up, I say a HUGE THANK YOU!

WHY SHOULD YOU PARTICIPATE?

The local Red Cross does many fantastic things to serve the community.  Let me tell you about one event we do each year. Every year volunteers from the local chapter spend several Saturdays going door to door in low income housing areas and checking to see if their smoke detectors are working properly.  What is discovered is that the majority of these homes DO NOT HAVE ANY SMOKE ALARMS at all.  When that is discovered the local group of volunteers installs a new smoke detector in the home at no charge!

This work has resulted in saved lives!  Last year our local chapter installed 1,733 smoke alarms in low income housing in LaGrange.

So, if you haven’t responded yet, please consider helping us raise funds for an organization that is doing great things in our community.  If you don’t play golf, there are other opportunities for your participation.  Every dollar donated will go towards smoke alarms and additional lifesaving activities.

Senoia Area Blood Drive on August 7th

There is an emergency need for blood & platelet donors right now. Patients are depending on people like you.
You’ll have an opportunity to get that great feeling of accomplishment when you make a donation of the “gift of life” inconjunction with the August 7 blood drive that will be held from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Senoia United Methodist Church.  The blood drive is co-sponsored by the local church and the Senoia Optimist Club.
The last blood drive sponsored by these organizations unfortunately was cancelled the day of the event (May 1) due to a scheduling problem experienced by the American Red Cross (ARC).  To help thank the Senoia area donors for their dedication, the ARC will provide a $5 Target gift card to each donor on August 7.  Also, it is planned that the Red Cross will provide gift baskets and other items to raffle, including a $25.00 gift certificate and a picture frame from Table Talk in downtown Senoia.  These items are in addition to the free coupons from the Senoia Optimists that can be used in several of the Senoia area businesses.  Another reason to attend: members of the Senoia Optimist Club will again offer blood donors their “famous” grilled cheese sandwiches.
The upcoming blood drive is for the Senoia area and beyond, and it will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Senoia United Methodist Church.  The church is in the historic district of Senoia and is located at 229 Bridge Street.  It is at the intersection of Seavy and Bridge Streets.  For those not familiar with the area, you can turn east at the downtown intersection of Main Street and Seavy Street, and go past the Veranda Bed & Breakfast towards the City Park or State Highway 85.  The church is on the right – only about 2 blocks east of Main Street.
Donors at the Senoia blood drive are again asked to bring one or more non-perishable food items.  The Optimist Club members will collect these items and make them available to a local food bank in order to help those around us who are in need.
While “walk-ins” are welcome, potential donors may either sign up online at
http://www.redcrossblood.org/ or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).  In addition, Senoia Optimist Club member and blood drive coordinator Ellen Ingram may be contacted at 770-842-4533.
There is a need for all blood types. You are encouraged to please schedule an appointment to donate blood or platelets today.
The need is constant. The gratification is instant. Give Blood. ™
The Senoia Area blood drive is held at the Senoia United Methodist Church on a quarterly basis.  After the upcoming event on August 7, the next blood drive for the Senoia area will be November 6, 2017.
If you would like to learn how you can help in this or another worthwhile project sponsored by the Senoia Optimist Club, please email the club at senoiaoptimistclub@gmail.com or contact Club President Phil Downey at 770-833-9242.  If you would like more information about the Senoia United Methodist Church, please visit its web site at http://senoiaumc.org/ or call the church office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 9am-3pm at 770-599-3245.
